Can you help me revise this sentence plz?

The sentence is: "Sometimes that desire clasp in the arms of our deepest fears and transform into a burden." I was trying to make a figurative language out of this but it made it weird. I was trying to describe how when you always long for something and when you finally get it, it turns into your biggest fear. So if you can write this in a fig lang. for me plz help.
